Patrick Larson of the RVCA has provided the attached chart as well as his assessment, below, of where we are at the moment. This information adds some perspective to assist those at risk. Residents should study the flood plain map (low res, high res)* which indicates the elevation in their immediate area. *Note: the original flood plain map is available for viewing at the club house during business hours. |

Attached (click here) is a table of water levels and flows for the CGYC area. The first column is the cross-section number from the floodplain map. The third column is the water level and the last column is the return period. At this time, we are anticipating a 1 to 5 year flood. Therefore, the relevant water elevation at cross-section 26060 is 86.62 metres. IMPORTANT NOTE: This information has been superceded by the Aug 7th Flood Warning. Based on this information, residents should review the flood plain map to determine where the 86.86 line is in relation to their home. The 1:5 year estimate is based on the lack of significant rainfall and relatively low temperatures in the weather forecasts. Should the reality be more rain than the 5 to 10 mm forecast and 15 to 20 degree temperatures then, obviously, higher water levels can be expected. Overnight temperatures went below zero which slowed runoff considerably and, in turn, allowed some water already in the system to pass through. Similar low temperatures tonight will also help. |
