Bell has indicated that they have not included CGYHA in their 2003 work plan. Similarly, Rogers has been indefinite about providing service to CGYHA although they are passing the community in a joint fibre build with Telecom Ottawa. It may be more economically feasible for Rogers to do it with fibre so close.

Also, I have been speaking to André Lahaie who operates Digital City, a multi-branch LinCsat dealership in the Ottawa area (http://www.digital-city.ca) selling LinCsat services. LinCsat is a US company founded by the same people who started Star Choice. Their high-speed Internet product is available in Canada through a dealer network.

André himself is a CGYHA resident and is interested in having some sort of public meeting out there. What do you think?

Currently LinCsat has a special promotion on with service offered at an introductory monthly rate of $59.95 for the first 3 months. After the first 3 months, the monthly fee increases to $99.95 for a one-year contract or $89.95 for a 3-year commitment. In addition, there is a one-time charge of $400 for installation and another one-time fee of $899 for the system.

André told me that the upload speed varies between 56K and 128K while the download speed is rated at 400K, but peaks to about 1.5 megs.

If you'd like more information, André can be reached at (613) 247-8023 or by email at andre@digital-city.ca
