A company called AccessTNG (http://accesstng.net) is going to mount wireless gear on the tower located at the Osgoode library and plan to launch their service on that date. I am told that their radios are more sensitive than Storm's and the distances to CGYC is OK, but trees may be the issue. Only a test will answer the question with any certainty.
AccessTNG's pricing is a little different. In addition to commercial packages, they will offer a residential package at $50 for the basic radio rental and $60 for a premium radio with greater sensitivity and some ability to grab signals filtered by trees or longer distances. Throughput will be capped at a half Meg, but the service will be synchronous. Up-front costs are similar to Storm's at $400, but this is a special and that price will rise to $500 in a month or so after the launch.
André is going to demo his LinCsat satellite service at the event as well, so folks will have a pretty good opportunity to "kick tires." CGYC resident Andre Lahaie of Digital Dity , is a LinCsat dealer. This satellite-based service costs about $900 to buy equipment, $400 for installation, and $100 per month for high speed two-way service ($60 first 3 months). Call Andre at 247-8023 or email andre@digital-city.ca for more information.
