Speeding within the Carleton Golf and Yacht Community

Posted on Updated on

Our community has a problem with speeding, even though our posted speed limit is 40 km/h.
In the interests of safety, the Carleton Golf and Yacht Club Homeowners’ Association encourages residents to “Keep It To 40 km/h” and to ask that their visitors do the same.Did you know that:
  • 5  per cent of pedestrians die when struck by a vehicle at 32 km/h?
  • Fatalities increase to 85 per cent at only 64 km/h?

The CGYHA receives many complaints about speeding within our community, particularly on Upton Road and Fairway Drive.

We need your help!

What Can You Do To Help?

  • Keep your speed within our community to the posted 40km/h;
  • Encourage your neighbours, visitors and service providers to keep it to 40km/h;
  • Report speeders to the Ottawa Police Service.
Report Speeding to the Ottawa Police Service
The Ottawa Police Service encourages people to contact them with information about speeders.  The OPS does investigate all reports of speeding and does follow up on each report.  The information is tracked to analyze patterns within neighbourhoods and with individual licence plates.  If information is not reported, the OPS will not be able to do anything about speeding or speeders.

There are two ways to report speeders to the OPS:

The more information that you can provide to the OPS, the easier it makes their job. Think:
  • make/model/colour of car
  • any identifying features (company logo, personalized licence plate)
  • licence plate # (or partial)
  • any details about the driver (gender, colour of hair)
  • date and approximate time and location, direction vehicle was travelling, noting outside what specific address, if possible.
 Manotick “Keep it To 40 km/h” Initiative
The Manotick Village Community Association has launched a campaign to keep the speed limit to 40 km/h in the village.The impetus behind this initiative, even though the posted speed limit in the Village is currently 50 km/h, is to improve safety.
Take the pledge to “Keep It to 40 km/h” at: www.manotickvca.org/k40.html
The MVCA has lawn signs in case you want to publicly support the initiative.
